Chiropractic Manipulation

The term “adjustment” refers to the specific manipulation applied to the vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function or move normally. The manipulation thus reduces the subluxation, which results in an increased range of motion, reduced nerve irritability and improved function within that joint. The adjustment consists of a high velocity, short lever arm thrust applied to a vertebra, which is often accompanied by an audible release of gas. The sound is caused by the release of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide, which releases joint pressure. The sensation is usually relieving, though minor discomfort has been reported (that usually lasts for only a short time duration) if the surrounding muscles are in spasm or the patient tenses up during the chiropractic procedure. With proper technique applied the percentage of the patient tensing up prior to the adjustment is greatly reduced thus lowering the levels of post-manipulation pain.

K.T. Taping

K.T. taping is performed in order to enhance the ability of an injured, overused, or fatigued muscle to react to every day movements. K.T. tape is a pliable and stretching for of tape that will allow the muscle and joint to move fully through its range of motion as well as giving it some extra aid and strength while moving. The primary use of K.T. tape is to help restore normal muscle function to an area in which otherwise would not be able to perform at full capacity without assistance of a brace or long term rest.

Spinal Decompression (click here for more info from WebMD)

You don’t have to live in debilitating pain. Whether you have lower back pain, a pinched nerve, sciatica, foot numbness, neck pain, arm/hand pain or numbness or a variety of symptoms related to damaged or degenerative discs, as well as syndromes of the lumbar and cervical spine, spinal decompression therapy may be the treatment needed for you.

This gentle, NON-SURGICAL therapy can provide lower back pain relief, sciatica pain relief, and is fantastic therapy for neck pain relief, bulging, herniated or degenerative disc disease, and lumbar pain.

The gentle distractive forces of the equipment add a decompression of the spine with unloading due to distraction and proper positioning, to improve blood flow and nutrient exchange to the injured area. You will experience several cycles of stretch and relaxation, which graduates to a peak over a period of several minutes.

A complete program targeting the function of the stabilization muscles is a vital part of decompression therapy. Exercise and adjunctive therapies such as heat, muscle stimulation, ultrasound, and cold therapy can assist in rehabilitation of these structures. Our goal is to not only help heal the disc, but to also enhance muscular control and support of the back and neck.

Regular home exercise and periodic visits to our office will help in maintaining your spinal health and reduce the probability of re-occurrence. Once we have reduced the symptoms of the disc herniation and then have increased the functional status of your body we will work to move forward and consistently maintain these changes.

By using state of the art rehab equipment and techniques our goal is to re-establish and equilibrium inside and outside of your body in order for you to again be able to be in a pain free status. We offer protocols for many spinal and extremity injuries specializing in targeting your particular needs which will suit you best in your recovery process.
